Hello, I am going to Madeira Beach for 3 days next week and will be about a 3 minute walk to Johns Pass and 10 to 15 minute walk to Hubbard Marina. I don't have a boat, so myself and my girlfriend's 16 year old son will be fishing from land. Any advice, knowledge, or suggestions for fishing the area would help, and I will take all the help I can get to point us in the right direction.

Very informative and I never knew anything about reading the waves or surf to tell you the truth. I look forward to applying it and will let you know how it goes. Fishing the inner coastal as well and I have been reading the reports about a lot of snook, so hopefully I can catch one and cross that off the list as well.

You are one lucky man as the fishing reports all state the snook are being caught in that region better than they have in years.

John Pass....fish the bridge at night or early morning for snook and tarpon. You will see plenty of boats hanging around the bridge, that's what they are doing. Top water baits are preferred. Cast then HOLD ON!

The tarpon are big sized in that area,,,so good luck getting one in. Fun to watch the boats chase their fish in and out of the bridge as they fight it. During the day fish smaller live baits for reds, trout, snappers and grouper. Yes I said grouper. They come in there and are a nice catch. If you catch a redfish odds are it will be too big. That's okay because Scully's Restaurant is across the street. There is a lot of rocks there, so bring extra tackle. So use just enough weight to hold your bait down. Good luck and share some pics! I vacationed a few years in a row at the condo overlooking the Pass. I miss it!

Thank you lots, I am very excited, and wish it was the 23rd already. Patience though, just like fishing. We are staying at the Snug harbor Inn. It has boat slips right out the back door and a great canal to try fishing as well, just wish I had a boat for those docks!
