I'm a beginner and have never tried shrimping before. After reading many informative posts here on these forums I have a few basic questions.

First being I am a beginner would shrimping from a boat or pier with a Cast Net be the first method to try as it requires much less knowledge and equipment to get started? Perhaps I am wrong but that seems to be the case . Having said that I really have not seen many post of Cast Netting Shrimp. Most of the forum information topics are in regards to Frame net and Dip netting at night. This type of shrimp'n seems to require much more skill and equipment.

So am I wrong? What do I need to know if I go cast netting for Shrimp.

    Thanks for any help.

Tom: White shrimp run in the Ormond to South Daytona area in the summer. They are run on the bottom in the daytime and are caught using the cast net - mostly by boat. A few are caught from the Ormond docks at night with the cast net.

Brown shrimp are caught in the New Smyrna to Oak Hill area in the winter and early spring. They are only caught at night under the lights by dipping. They run on the surface.
