Gonna fill some sand bags and put them at the hidey hole pull-over.

Just waiting for the formal go-ahead from MINWR. If you hunt there - or want to, it will be a fun day with some work and you'll meet the serious guys who hunt there.

Work day was a success with 12 guys showing up.

We used 6 boats to haul 100+ sandbags and 2 telephone pole sections across the lagoon to shore-up part of a levy. Green things in boats are sand bags. Great set of guys there.

When the hard work was all said & done - stayed out and caught some trout before heading in.

Same story as most of my trout reports - I found these on a "line" finger mullet were following. Launched out of Beacon 42 to do the levy repairs. Sam says to fish close in by the clinkers, I say to get out away from them. Did see a red tailing up next to one of the clinkers while we were hauling stuff. Talking with the guys - reds are harder to come by these days of poor water quality. That's likely why the guides are pushing MINWR to go catch & release only for trout and reds.

Interesting. Any chance you could post on a map so I could see what you are talking about? Also, what is a “clinker”?
I guess I could see why the guides would be pushing for catch and release only but dang, its already very restricted with one Snook certain times of the year, one Redfish, and now a push for no Trout?
Looks like you have a few good trout dinners to look forward to.

I'll make it easy for you - pull up haulover canal on a map - the lagoon is north of haulover, the clinkers line the west side of the lagoon. They are a series of spoil islands from when the channel was dug.

The guides want no redfish and no trout to be kept. They should be fighting for better water conditions but instead want more restrictions.

Those trout were loaded with worms. Once the water cools off there will be less worms, cut the worms out, fry the rest... When I get a fillet without worms, it gets blackened.

Ok, gotcha. I see where you are talking about. I thought clinker must be some sort of buoy...
Worms? Yuck. Hadn’t heard about that being an issue for trout. Have seen them in Drum before.
    Thanks for the additional info.
