    This goes for cast netting or dipping.

    Everyone who uses a cast net or dip net must have a fishing license! If you have three people on board and three nets everyone must have a license whether they are shrimping or observing!

    Talked with a guy last year who was checked. He had his wife along to drive. But he had two nets in the boat and she got a ticket for no license! Same goes for fishing poles!

    I was checked last year by FWC while castnetting. I was on the bow with a castnet in my hand. My round eye buddy was driving. He asked to see my license, looked in my livewell to see what we caught. My buddy asked if he wanted to see his license. FWC officer said no license check required, since he was driving and not castnetting......... i-dunno-hand-gesture-smiley-emoticon.gif . So........is a license only required if you are actively harvesting? Was it an Asian thing...??? smiley-laughing018.gif

    Yep, checked into this when my daughter used to go with us. If the three of us are in the boat and there are there poles, everyone needs a license. Even though she just rides along and does not fish.

    This is sounding fishy(pun intended), so if my mom flies into town and we want to take her on a boat ride, I have to buy her a fishing license if I bring my fishing gear along (which I always do)?

    My wife used to work for the court system here locally and she said it is officer discretion. They can find something to get anyone on if they have it in their mind to write a ticket.

    Always air on the side of caution. I haven't had any issues with LEO in many years. I make double sure that all safety gear is on board, up to date and my license is always in date. When I see a LEO approaching my boat, I always bring my safety gear out on deck so that they don't have to wait while I dig it out. They can see it in plain sight. I also have my drivers license and fishing license out in my hand. They always respect the fisherman who is prepared and polite. They spend a lot of time in the sun dealing with drunks and idiots who have no idea what they are doing in a boat. I think some of this is why I haven't been stopped in years.
