I wonder if braided line will freeze together on a reel if it's wet??

Just like the smaller fishing line the bigger ship lines that we use on tugboats are smaller diameter, lighter, and much stronger than that of lines of nylon or other materials. Vessels operating in colder climates do have some issues with the line getting stiff when the temps dip well below the freezing mark but they do not have any issues with the lines freezing.

I've tried several braids but the best for me is powerpro slick 8. Braid takes a while to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, you won't go back to mono. At least I didn't, for leaders I use fluorocarbon line. Mono just stretches too much.

I use power pro. I have been using it for years. without getting all technical some advantages to me; it last a long time, smaller diameter, greater strength, does not stretch. The main advantage I like is it does not have a memory. The Bad is boy don't get it tangled you have a real mess, you must learn at least the uni-knot. a lot of knots will just pull out, You should double it when tying leader. I use 20lb fluorocarbon leader. When fishing crappie I use 4lb test leader. It can be hard to cut. You must be careful if you pull it with your bare hand it will cut you. A curios traight is it makes an unusual singing noises in the wind.

What is the difference between mono and fluorocarbon. I use wire leaders, I make my own.

Agree with Bob 100%. No wire leaders! If you require more strength, use a heavier mono or fluorocarbon leader. I personally use 15# test line with a 20# fluorocarbon leader in the surf. Wire leaders will scare off more fish than it will catch.

Yes up north is does freeze and freeze solid it does, but only on temps well below 32 degrees.

and I am a braid only guy for any fish over 5 pounds so I have ultra light gear set up with 6 pound test mono but the rest are all braid.

I use mono with flouro leaders. Never cared for braid. Wire leader is useful for some fish like sharks and cudas.

my problem with mono is that its to fragile not durable enough. I never really ben big on leaders until recently. I use flouro for leaders and on the mono line no leaders at all just the mono

I only use breaded line inshore and when fishing around the pilings, otherwise mono or fluorocarbon .

I only is mono or fluorocarbon for offshore fishing and only use mono or fluorocarbon leaders, except when fishing for Kings, Wahoo and sharks.

The leader length while inshore is 5ft, excepts when fishing for Sheepshead, then it is 12 inches.
The leader length while offshore is 6ft, excepted when fishing for Mangrove Snapper, then the leader eighth is 10 - 15 ft.

I always use swivels, and slip sinker for inshore fishing.

Try tying a knot with braid in the dark with a 15 knot wind blowing! My mono record speaks for itself.

no issues tying the knots as said above can do it blind folded, but don't really need to have not had many break offs using braid
