Up at our cabin near Blairsville GA. Went out back to walk the dog about 7:30 and a big bear with 4 cubs came walking by about 50 yards from back porch. I picked up the dog and watched for a minute and then yelled at them. They just ignored me. I yelled again louder and they stopped and looked at me for a few seconds and then just started meandering in the same direction they had been going. I stepped up on porch and really started making some noise and stomped my feet. That turned them around and they slowly started off in another direction back up the hill. Sure didn’t have the reaction I was expecting.
I’ve seen a lot around here in the past but have always just watched from inside the cabin or treestand and never drawn attention to myself. Always thought they would move a little faster trying to get away... Accidentally walking up on a momma with cubs is the only thing I worry about up here. Well, that and snakes

LOL, you aren't as big as them. Good thing you stayed safe. I would be scare stiff to find myself that close to a Mama and her cubs.

Yeah, you always see those videos where those guys are up a tree hunting and a bear climbs up the tree next to them or in the same tree... Sorry Black Bear would suddenly become a Brown Bear.:

One moving west about 20 yards up the ridge from me and then three more going the opposite direction about 10 minutes later. One went right under me, one was about 20 yards up the hill and the other was about 20 yards down the hill from me. Didn't see much else but squirrels until after 10:00. Then a big bear walked along the ridge past me going west probably 50 yards away. After he got out of sight a few minutes later I decided to do my best fawn in distress call. Must not have been half bad because a minute or two later I heard something coming toward me. Sure enough the bear had come down the hill and was headed straight for me. Got to my tree and sniffed and snorted around and put both front legs up on it. I was starting to feel like bait... Looked right at me but didn't see me. I was about 35' up. I think they have poor eyesight. I was getting ready to scream like a little girl (and shit my pants as Bossman says above) but it wasn't necessary. He went back to sniffing around and wandered back down the hill and off toward my cabin. Watched him take a turn about 100 yards off and go back up the hill toward where he came from. He was bigger than he looks in the pics. Not the largest I have seen but pretty big.
Only reason I thought to try the fawn bleat was because a few years ago a good friends brother shot a deer up my way and by the time he got back up with his four wheeler a couple hours later (well after dark) it was gone. Next morning they discovered it had been where he thought it was, but a bear had drug it down the hill in to a bunch of fallen trees to have his midnight snack.
Trying to upload a video clip but not having much success with my poor bandwidth up here.

Four cubs is something. The one I saw had 3 cubs and that was cool but she got out of dodge once she smelled me.

Time to get some firecrackers or something like that.

My mom sent me an email this morning - she got up, opened the blinds and there's a moose looking at her - been a while since they've been near the house, they usually feed in the beaver pond. Made her day.

A moose? Wow. That would be cool to see. Where does your mom live?
I saw a bear with 5 cubs on my trail cam up here before. I think that’s pretty unusual. 3 seems to be the most common.

My parents are in New England near Canada.

Up that way the bears usually only have 1, maybe 2 cubs. Hibernating must take a lot out of them.
