Don't forget Pinfish. Snook like them too, I prefer a smaller hook. Size 3. Definitely around structure. And at night. I have caught them right at the shoreline where the trough is from the small waves slapping up against the shore. (Especially in SW Florida in Sanibel and Captiva). I like to cast my bait down the beach a little from where I am standing at the shore. I believe They can see me.

No, I didn't think the chances of catching a keeper were very likely. I am rethinking that! LOL

Gilman, that is my number one trout lure in Titusville area. It is an unbelievable lure and I have also caught 6 lb bass on it. I am a believer of this lure.

I am not as expert a snooker as many on here, but I have had some luck this summer. My live bait of choice is either greenies or pinfish. I use a 3/0 or 4/0 hook with a 30 lb flouro leader to 20 lb braid main. My son has a much lighter rod so we go with 10 lb braid on his, still with a 30 lb leader. Seems light but he has landed several large snook off the jetty with this setup, including a 33.5". When I'm using artificial, I like a DOA baitbuster, deep-diver in the mullet color. I've tried a Yozuri 3d crystal minnow (heard it was money for snook) but had no luck with it.

My absolute favorite way (admittedly only done it a couple of times) is to sight fish for snook off the beach. I felt like a hunter. The ones I've caught off the beach were smaller than the jetty snook but I enjoyed it more. Much more peaceful than dealing with all the crazy people on the jettys. DOA baitbuster again. There is a lot of good info on the net about stalking snook so if you want one, study, study, study. That's what I did. I wish this thread had been around when I first started going after them, lol, would have made it much easier! The biggest key is to realize how close they actually are to shore. If you are wading in the surf, they are probably behind you. Walk the beach 5-10 yards up from the water's edge and carefully watch for them (polarized shades a must). Spanish house (first beach access north of Sebastian) is where I have caught mine off the beach but I have heard south of SI is good and also the beaches in and around Satelite and Indianatlantic are good due to the rocks.

I have had luck with both incoming and outgoing. Seems like moving water is key.

Sebastian and Fort Pierce South (Jetty Park). Another key, take a day off and go on a week day. I won't fish the jettys if there is a crowd. Not worth it in my book. Fighting crowds and rude people is nto my idea of fishing

Yep, story I heard is that someone cast at a boat from the north Jetty and a kid/teenager was injured when he grabbed the line to remove it from the handrails. I almost never go at night, though I'd like to try at some point. Just wipes me out for the entire next day.
