I would stick with mono. If you can find one with real lead weights they sink faster and seem to work better. They are getting harder to find though.

Mono will cast better and catch more bait. The larger the net the better, and the heaver the lead the faster it will sink.

Under $50? not unless you find one at a yard sale. It all depends on what you're wanting to catch, Bait or shrimp? Bait net you'll need heavier weights which you'll have to have it custom made. If you have one custom made your cost just went up. Shrimp you can go with less weight but will still have a hard time finding it under $50 even at wally world.

Tim wade makes a nice net he is somewhere in the Melbourne ares. Stick with 3/8 for shrimp and finger mullet

Ed Shumaker make fine nets and I got 2 nets earlier this month and a friend is getting one this weekend. Quality work.

I have had my cast net for 6-7 years. It is a 7 footer, 3/8” mesh. Don’t remember the brand. Got it at Bass Pro (again...my crack store lol). It has been through a lot over the years including getting stuck on bridge hardware, rocks, catfish and the like. It has been patched until I really can’t patch it anymore. I have broken one Braille line and patched it up. Basically, it’s time for a new net. I’m thinking custom net this time but I’m torn. What are the pros and cons of Tim Wade nets vs Ed Schumaker nets? Also, I would like to get into summer cast netting for shrimp and I know I need the banding at the bottom of the net for that. Can you use that same shrimping net for getting bait? Custom is going to cost and I don’t think my husband is gonna be happy if I get 2 custom nets. Not right away anyhow. Any thoughts?

Don’t have much experience with those nets but if your husband doesn’t believe two nets aren’t better than one then get a divorce

As far as Tim Wade nets? I can't speak about them. Now a Schumaker I have some knowledge. I bought an 8' shrimp net with 5/8 mesh with webbing this summer. I have also ordered 2 other mullet nets for friends this summer. One of the friends had just bought a bets net that he wasn't pleased with. I gave him Ed's number and he call and ordered a net with custom size and weight. Ed's nets are 6 panel nets which I think is easer to throw. If I remember correctly he only paid $15 more than what he bought the bets net for. It's really not that big of a difference. PM me and we can talk about the nets further.

+1 on Salty77's comment above, sounds like a new husband might be in order. Also, and on a somewhat more serious note: I recently ordered a bait net from Ed Shumaker. I very much enjoyed the conversation with him, and as I explained to him what I needed to accomplish with the net, he provided me with suggestions on what size overall, size of mesh, amount of weight, etc...Truly a custom experience. I should be picking it up within a week or so.

I have some custom 10 ft nets, they all throw well, and catch bait. All nets will get holes in them when you throw and catch trout, snook and red drum in your nets. I learned how to mend them.
just get what you can afford.

Lmao!!! I think I’ll keep my husband. And in all honesty, he probably wouldn’t care if I get 2. But that’s a lot of money to plop down all at once. You’re funny though Salty77. Lol

Lol. Sounds like a good experience with Ed. I’ll have to think about that. Thank you JonathanFlorida. Appreciate the info.
