Have caught buckets of shrimp also with hanging lanterns and starfires but the green is a little easier on the eyeball.

Saw an elderly lady in Brevard in the rivers with an led head light and she was slaying them. Was it just luck that she caught them while they were running or do headlamps make the shrimp go deep?

When did you see her? And where was she getting them?

In my experience, a headlamp can be effective if you dont have it on really bright, dont keep the light on them the whole time. If you keep the light on them as they swim in, They will dive, veer or turn away. Sometimes people have the “red” mode on so you can get the eyes. This works ok if the shrimp are right on top. But if they are down a foot or 2 you will miss them. That’s when the lights come in really handy. Sometimes, all you see is a shadow and if you scoop in that direction you could end up with a Zilla!

Others with more experience here may differ in opinions, not that mine is correct, just my experience as i stated. I had to use the headlights a few times. Battery went dead one night and lost several lights another night.

Hey Srfdave: This was last year at Mathers bridge in Brevard county. Every single time she was there she would pull good numbers of shrimp. Got to the point to when we went and she was not there we would turn around and wait ill she showed up. Im sure other folks who shrimp near Mathers know who I am talking about

I imagine it could though I have not had that problem. The nice thing about grease is that it is easy to replace the bulbs and easy to add more if one is worried about the amount in the socket. I also guess it is not an environmentally good thing to do.

Grease also hold water... Dielectric work better for contacts... although I would make a water tight seal permanently... Electric on the docks will electric you if any water got in...

Even my boat shrimp lights, when connected into my trolling motor outlets, if I do not have a good seal I will feel it...

So I use some good water proof disconnects... My build is posted on this forum...

I can remember about 25 years ago some guys were using 4 foot fluorescent lightbulbs and would connect the power to one end and when they place the other end into the water the light would automatically come on. Remember my father never wanted to try this because with so many kids in the boat he was afraid that all the bulbs would get busted.

Ole Fleas here....I bought 8- 25" green led fish or shrimp lights on EBAY for 49.99 apiece....that's over 2 feet of light...I mounted them under the tunnels of my 16ft cc skiff....throws a perfect 12 foot ring of green all around my boat....it's a beautiful thing...no more lines in the water....and I use 2 batteries 4 for each set of lights..my wife and I shrimp from dark to dawn at failover and all those lights only use 22% of each battery juice....unbelievable.....love them....they are sold on EBAY by fireonthewater site....give them a check out....best move I have ever made for shrinking and nite fishing...

That's great, the only thing wrong with using fish light, is that fish lights sink and hang down below your boat... Shrimp lights are buoyant and float, meaning you can have them 8ft in front of your boat and see the shrimp as they are coming... using a 40ft power cord will get the wiring under your boat and not in the way of the nets!

Note: Although using fish lights you will catch shrimp, alot of the shrimp will be detoured around your boat and the ones that you see, a good amount of them will be to close for you to be a ninja and get them. JMOP

This is the more productive way of deploying of Shrimp Lights

It's gunnels not tunnels....also they are shrimp lights or fishing lights if u are fishing.......also I like no more power lines under the water......in the future I truly don't think u understand my statement about the 12 ft. ring of green shrimp light around my boat....I will take a pic at nite on the water to show the common sense of my set up....plus at 50 bucks a pop I am not break in the bank...if we can dip 20 gallons of shrimp on these lights....don't hat the player hate the game brother....
