Remember when you could bring in sailfish and actually have them mounted? Ran across this old photo yesterday dated 1972! My pre-beard and pre- large gut days!

That's what I thought. Love them pics. When my moms brother also name Bob was younger he and his buddy chipped in and bought a Luhrs 30 foot lapestrake hull boat with a inline 4 cyl gas engine. I think it was the mid to late 60's but they used to always be out every chance they got (like you) fishing for what ever was running out of Babylon Long Isl NY. They had lots of pics and over time had some reel to reel footage! Hi tech stuff back then. LOL Here is a pic of the sistership.

Good times! Thanks for sharing! Were sailfish more abundant back then?

Sailfish probably were out there but not many fishing for them! We all had slow boats so we fished all the way out to the reefs instead of just running out like they do now! The private boats caught a lot more sails than the charter boats did. I did a lot of amberjack and bottom fishing. Everybody wanted those red looking fish - I think they call them red snapper!

I doubt you had the fancy graphics that point fish out too! You definitely grew up having to know your stuff or NO fish!
