Remember When?

    Anybody remember when Aunt Catfish's Restaurant was Dave's Dock & Waterfront Restaurant? This photo was taken in 1961 right after the place was built. I worked there for two summers when I was in high school. We had 17 rental rowboats (remember those?) that rented for $2.00 per day. Live shrimp were $4.00 per hundred. My first car, a 1949 Plymouth is on the right of the photo. My boat is the red one - 14' with a 5hp Sea King outboard. Yea, I know - I'm old! The flat bridge or the high rise bridge wouldn't be built and the causeway four-laned for another 20 years.

    Just an add-on. When the causeway was only two laned, there was only a 20' culvert about where the Aunt Catfish's dock ends now. We could get our skiffs through the culvert only when the tide was low.

    Thanks for sharing. Great pic. I bet a lot of fish were landed in that red boat and a lot of good looking gals in the 49 Plymouth!!!:D

    I remember from 63' to 66' we used rent 14 ft. cypress row boats from our fresh water marina for $2 a day and with a 5hp Scotts motor (we also did have one 5hp Sea Kings from Wards on one of their 12' aluminum v-bottoms for our personal use) it was $5. When these boats had been out of the water any length time you would have to bail them out each morning for a few days until the wood swelled, that was us kids job each morn. Some of these boats would always seep some anyways so there were always a bailing scoop sent out along life preservers, oars, and anchors with the fishermen in each boat.

    Now we know why Bob tears up the flat bridge! He was there before it was built and knows ever inch of what's under it! Lol
