Well after reading everyone's post and not being on forum much lately .I figured I share my annual hunting trip . We took our big trip of the year up to Indiana. It's all public land hunting for us and it was challenging this year at least for me . We bring my pop up camper all way up there it's a long haul but worth it. Weather was cold cold the first few days never got over 35°. Mornings were in teens . Had some truck problems first it was just the starter solenoid and then sensor went bad for transmission. I believe it was from all the 4wheeling we had to do to get back in one of the spots we were hunting. The deer were moving saw a lot of them no real big bucks for me anyways . My dad saw 3 shooters in 2 days . One at 80yards little to far for old crossbow . He shot a big one but hit it low was such a bummer . We tracked it for long time the buck wasn't bleeding very good and act like it didnt know it was hit. Made scrapes and rubs . Bedded twice tho but we finally quit after few hours. The deer for sure lived well least for that day . The next day was opening gun we joined the orange army in pursuit . Dad got a small 8pt .He was no giant but he was very excited to get one and some meat. I hunted next day with my friend we got in woods really early . The spot we went into had big ditch we could not cross . My buddy went on down a ways to find a crossing I decided to stay put and was gonna move after 9 or 10am. Well at 9 am on the other side of the ditch only few hundred yards away I hear BOOM ...BOOM ... phone vibrates it's my buddy just shot a good buck bud. Was very exciting to know we got a big one down .I decided i stay in woods and hunt while he got out and got game cart . After about two hours in another spot I decide I move again for evening spot . My buddy had someone coming to help with his deer . Went to cross a area of water got 3/4 way across and yep to deep . Over boots very wet and cold feet I knew I was gonna have to got to camp an regroup .I then met up with buddy helped with his buck went to camp . It was about 3pm when I had my buddy drop me back off into woods . I told him well my turn for a buck you be back in a hour with game cart lol. Well scouted behind a thicket for 20minutes and climbed a tree . I knew this was probably gonna be my last chance our truck was screw up and dad was going to town the next morning to get it fixed or buy one and buddy would be going home beings he got his buckand we were gonna head home the following day.I was trying to stay positive but was feeling like I was gonna be heading home empty handed. When I saw a buck come out of the thicket to my right and stop broad side at 85 yards I could not believe it. I turned grab gun had to wait a minute for him to get little pass a tree took the shot and he fell deadvinbhis tracks . I was super excited he was no giant and was busted up from fighting. Was a 8pt but had 2 tines busted . I texted my buddy and he came with cart just like I told him when he drop me off. Was a he'll of a trip for us this year. We managed to get truck fixed $ 250.00 .I cleaned both the deer and camp while dad took it to town and we packed up and drove south to warmer weather the next day. My thoughts on the deer movement was most big bucks were locked up with doe and the chasing phase had kinda already pass . Thanks for reading.

That’s what I call a successful hunt. All of you went home with a nice deer. That bottom one is really nice.
Glad it worked out for you all. I’ll bet that temp drop was a shock to the system.

There is nothing wrong with any of those bucks when you go out in another state on public land and score a buck that you haven't scouted out all summer long. great job all three of you.

Congratulations on the Bucks. Just remember the only buck you ever regret is the one you had the chance to get and chose not to! Just to see a shooter is a job in itself let alone be successful. Plus no matter how much you boil them horns the soup still only tastes like hot water lol

I have passed a few that I have kicked my self over that's for sure . I have been very blessed to have had the success up there . I killed a real nice one years ago and have gotten some decent bucks there for being out of state and only being able to hunt a week or so at a time. I have always considered any deer I shoot is a trophy. If I shoot a doe I consider it a successful season.

With exception of the truck, an extremely successful hunt. Public land is tough and you guys pulled it off. Congratulations on a great time.

Getting a truck fixed for $250 might also be some kind of record.
