I wear mostly costas but the biggest thing for me is finding polarized glasses that are comfortable and close all the way around your eyes. I have extra cheap pairs on my boat at all times.

I think they would run you a few hundred more than normal $250 so close to 500 would be my guess. Its a pretty tough of the wallet.

I don't fully retract my statement of my bias towards Costa's but I have a pair of the double haul with blue mirror lenses and I have a heck of a time seeing at daybreak. It wasn't dark but very light with spots of bright sun mixed in with bridge pilings. I found myself taking them on and off all morning and then finally just putting on my cheap backup pair. The Costas are awesome in the bight light with glare. I stopped by the Fishin Hole this morning and picked up a pair of Calcutta Outriggers. So far I am impressed with the comfort and feel for a $20 pair of glass that I will probably sit on or drop in the pond.

Love my Costas. The ones with the glass lenses may be just a bit heavier, but are much more scratch resistant.

One way to check if your glasses are polarized is to get another pair of known polarized glasses and look through both glasses while rotating one pair. The glasses will get darker as you rotate the glasses, you will be able to see through them both when they are lined up and as you rotate they will get darker.

I got a $20 pair at the yellow bait box called Calcutta and he says he will life time guarantee them and you just exchange them with him and choose another pair for scratches or breakage. I was there when someone came in with scratches and he told them to pick another pair right off the rack.

I have a pair of Costa's they have the 580 lens. If you scratch the lens they cost $40 to replace. I've had two pairs that I enter change when I need to send one back. Other than that when I have two pairs I have it on my boat for somebody on my boat. I have a redfisher and do a lot of site fishing. my main point is that when you pay $170 for a pair of glasses you take care of them. If they're $10 who cares and they break and you don't have a good lens to look through. Back in the day all we really had was cheapo sunglasses. If you invest in a good pair of glasses lenses you will train yourself to keep them in good condition unless you're a billionaire

There are different cases in every situation. I have a pair of "Smith" sunglasses with glass lens. I fell in the boat and shattered the lens while wearing them. Blessed that I didn't get any glass in my eyes, but did cut my eye lid. Would I continue to wear glass lens? Yes I do, because they clean better and don't scratch as easy. Each person will have differences in what they will choose just know the possibly of what can happen.

I think Calcutta's will be next pair that I buy, thanks for the tip about the guarantee at Yellow Bait box. I'll buy them from there next time I'm up that way.

Well I read this thread and ordered some Calcutta sunglasses and man are they comfortable and nice! JD I don't recommend many product specific brands, but you gotta try a pair. Thanks to aharp61 for bring this up.

I own two pair of Maui Jim glasses. One is over 20 years old. The other is about two weeks old. I have never fished in them due to the cost. One thing I did learn is the Maui Jim will manufacture the lenses when you have a prescription lenses. They do not allow any to produce their lenses. The quality is outstanding.

I got a really nice pair of Suffix brand sunglasses at Walmart in the fishing section. They do the job well. When my budget allows it I'll upgrade to something better.

I wish I could wear cheap sun glasses but since I am blind and contacts are not a fit for me I wear polarized Oakley's. Just hoping I can take care of them and not loose them!

Sunglasses are the essential accessories for fishing. Using Polarized Sunglasses while fishing not only cuts down on the glare coming from the water and other highly reflective surfaces, but they also give you better depth perception when looking straight down into the water.
