I was fishing with an LED worklight at the foot of a bridge a few nights ago when a few shrimp swam by going out with the tide. They were about 4" as I recall. Wasn't much going on so I had time to think about if they'd be worth collecting. I'm sure there are mixed opinions but I'm curious what people think about what's 'worth it'. Do you guys just scoop them all and throw the shorties in a bait pile or is there a minimum size that you look for when dip netting or throwing a cast net?

If there is a size limit then you might need to take me to jail. There is limitations on how you can catch them. I think you must be stationary and your net can only be so big. When I am dipping a bunch of smalls I do put those in a bait zip lock. 4 inch is about medium size.

When I go shrimping I usually let the tiny ones go by but anything in that 4" range and bigger is going in the bucket. They all taste great. Just a little more work on the little ones.

It is amazing how many shrimp are available to harvest each season. Hope to see a flurry of posts telling us about your successful shrimping adventures. Full pulls everyone.

Definitely shorties in bait bag for me and feast on the rest

  8. The good thing about shrimp is if they are big enough they feed us, if not we can use them to catch something that does feed us. lol
