My buddy and his stepfather came down from Wisconsin for a few days to do some hog hunting and fishing. They got to the airport around 2pm to a nice hot Florida day. We grabbed a bite to eat, stopped by walmqrt for some supplies and licenses and went out to make sure they were comfortable with the guns. The scopes were still dead on so we headed out to a buddies property I am lucky enough to hunt on. The hogs have been coming in like clock work at 6:00 according to the trail cams so we slipped in to the blind I made the week before around 5pm. Then they were treated to a nice Florida afternoon thunderstorm but luckily the lightning stayed away so we just got a good soaking rain. So 6pm comes and goes with no hogs, and it's still raining steady. I could tell they had their doubts, probably thinking it was some kind of Yankee hazing from the southern boy. 7pm rolls around and I hear some squealing off in the thick stuff. It was faint because of the rain and I just assumed they heard it as well. It turns out they did but didnt realize they were hogs (the tree frogs were singing quite a tune also with all the rain) and were getting ready to call it quits when the pack showed up. Now I talked it over with them prior to the hunt - "there are about 10 hogs in the pack and they typically stay for a while, so let them settle down and eat, get comfortable so you both can bag one. If you let them come out in the open I can get a shot with the 12 gauge too and we can possibly have 3 on the ground." Well it all happened so fast and they both were on point, they shot about 10 seconds after the hogs came out of the brush and 2 hogs didn't make it back. After it settled down they said "oh yeah, we forgot about what you said...we were supposed to give them time to come out in the open" I told them oh well we got hogs to clean and I was just as happy that the hogs cooperated and they both got one on the first night. The sow was about 100 lb and the little boar was probably 40 lb, both good eating size, 2 happy hunters and 1 happy "guide"
