Took a guy and his grown son deer hunting last weekend.

Saturday evening - 70 and cloudy, damp

Guy heard blowing, then 3 deer came out and lead doe was blowing and stomping up a storm until she took one from a 270. His first deer.
All 3 deer were about same size - 100-110#
A turkey and another similar sized doe paid him a visit.

His son saw 0. Was moving around too much I think.

I saw running tracks when I got where I was going. Saw 0.

We had fresh french fries, "southern-fried" backstrap and mule deer cube steaks back at the skinning rack to chase down a few beers. Fun stuff.

Sunday Am - drizzle and light rain

Kid went to hot stand and saw the turkey. He mentioned spraying bug spray around inside the box blind... sigh...

Guy sat on powerline and got antsy - moved 75 yards, deer came out 25 feet from his original spot. LOL! Small fawn and doe. No shots taken.

I did some exploring, 4.5 miles. Saw 12-15 turkeys and then 6. Really like that I walked up on the flock and could have shot one if I wanted too. Most of the time they are running before I see em.

Felt guilty kid hadn't seen or shot a deer and contemplated staying to hunt Sunday evening (would have been along night). Weatherman said heavy rain Sunday PM, so we cut and ran for home.

Sounds like a good time. Gotta love some backstrap. Don’t get much better than that.

Good for you. Can be challenging and funny to take non hunters or first time hunters. Sounds like a good meal and at least one guest got a nice one. I know you count that as a successful hunt when you can put someone else on a deer. Frustrating when you put someone on what you know is the best stand, and know they would see deer if they would just be still, etc. been there, done that... bug spray and all.
First time deer hunting for one of my now regular hunting buddies was hilarious. We walked him to his ladder stand and then as we were getting back in our vehicle about 150 yards away we could see this beam of light scanning back and forth through the woods. Had to walk back and tell him that he needed to turn off his head lamp. Response was “how else am I supposed to see the deer.” Smiley Laughing021::1
