I was trying to decide if I was gonna go scout for deer or go fish the mullet run. From Mike's report the run isn't happening yet...

Gonna go wander around some transition zones with the GPS and mark as many active deer trails as possible - mark em on Google Earth and see if there are any correlations. Also good time to check and see if the oaks are holding any acorns in this area.

Trying to take 2 more fishing trips - hope the mullet show up soon or might have to skip that. Only 4 weekends left til my deer hunt. Gonna spend the weekend before the season in a stand, seeing where the deer are hanging.

Picked up a used LW Sit N Climb. It is a lot lighter than my Millennium M100U and sticks. Hoping it will be as comfortable.

Well sounds to me like Mike did pretty good with his report this morning since he was by himself. He's planning on going again in the morning and I think he is going to have his fishing partner with him this time so we'll see the report.

I think you will really like that Lone Wolf. It is my go-to stand if I have a long hike up in the mountains. Very well thought out design and really stable and quiet (while carrying, climbing and waiting). It’s compact design on your back makes it feel so much lighter and is so much easier to move through the thick stuff. It’s not as easy to for me to sit in all day. The standard seat is also a little tight in the winter when I’m dressed like Randy from A Christmas Story.
I find my Millenium climber far more comfortable to hang out in all day, but that’s never one I drag along unless I can hang it in advance. It’s also hard for me to climb in. Sounds like I’m dragging a lounge chair up the side of the tree with a chain...
I tend to use my Gunslinger stand more than the other two. Can go higher, feel more secure and sit comfortably forever. That one seems to grab a branch and knock me on my ass while hiking in or out at least once a season...

I use my Summit open shot while bow hunting and use a Summit Viper when gun hunting. I prefer Summit but have never used any other climbers.

I’ve had a couple of summit Vipers. Great stand. Traded my last for a Millenium Climber that I wanted to try. It’s comfortable but difficult and noisy to climb. I guess that why they stopped making it. Summit was definitely better .

I'm interested to see how i like the lone wolf. The only climbers I've had before have been the real heavy steel ones.

The M100U is a lock-on with the comfort chair - very nice and about 14 pounds but the extras add up - mounting bracket, sticks, straps, etc... that pack weighs 40# or more. Ugh. Last time it was a 4 or 5 mile round trip. Love the stand but not carrying it. LW should be 1/2 the weight.

Guy I'm hunting with has an Open Shot - he uses the Summit top with a Warren and Sweat bottom.

Scouting went well this morning - amazing how far and few between the deer tracks are on public land down here. Put a solid 6 miles (GPS) on the boots and found 3 areas with tracks. Saw 1 hen turkey close enough to see her eyes blink. 1 buck rub, 1 decent size track.

Sorry Sam - I don't look in the fishing school section for reports so I missed it. Maybe will go next weekend - trying to get a fellow I work with out fishing OR another fellow - the one with the little boy. That would be fun. Otherwise I'll be scouting for deer. The reds will be around in October once deer season is over.

So Rich, you found you a good spot that you think will produce for you? Will you have more than one way into it incase the wind is blowing different?

Not yet - need to put some more time into it.

All I know right now is a couple areas where the deer have walked since the rain the afternoon before. Need to scout more areas before trying to determine where & when I want to hunt.

Right now, the thermals are predictable. Access is questionable right now.
