Turbo Repair / Replacement / Cleaning

    Yanmar 6LP-STE Turbo Housing Repair
How to hone off the carbon and rust that keeps the propeller from spinning.

Step 1) take apart and diagnose the problem, in this case itr is carbon buildup which is keeping the turbo propeller from spinning.

Step 2) try to clean, if not.
    Step 3) replace?

Will a can or 2 of parts cleaner/brake cleaner clean it, or is there a special way to remove the carbon? The carbon looks pretty thick on the wall. Dremel with a small wire brush attachment? $27 I have a Dremel if you need me to run it up to you.

Toothbrush might help get it real clean, soft enough it won't damage housing.

Thanks for the link Gator. It's looking like it's seen signs of saltwater intrusion. Time for a turbo.

I removed the whole Turbocharger from the vessel, and will remove the propeller from the housing and de-rust the cylinder, hone down some of the rust bumps lightly, spray-paint the outside of the unit and put it back together. and all should be fine... will save a few thousand dollars by doing it myself.
