I finally got back on the water after what has seemed like a long time. My buddy Scott and I got a very late start today as we both has stuff to do in the morning. We hit the dunlawtin ramp at 1:45. Castnetted some mullet and bought some live shrimp. This was the first time in a while I have seen small mullet. They were several in the 2" range on up.

We didn't want to head offshore as the weather was an unknown and short on time so we tried the north side of the north jetty for a while. There was some snapper action but not a whole lot. We ended up with 4 keepers. Two of the largest right at 12". I had a big hit on a mullet on the bottom close to the jetty that ended up being a good size jack. The boga showed right at 10#. Put up a really good fight. It has been a while since I have caught a bigger one. The action stopped so we decided to start making out way back hitting a few docks on the way back.

We stopped at the old inlet harbor dock, or what is left of it, and gave it a try. Soon after I caught a 20" black drum on a small piece of shrimp. Pleasant suprise as we were just trying to pick up another mango or two. Lots of other small fish but nothing worth mentioning.

Today was the first real day of fishing using my new trolling motor. It worked great. It kept us within a pretty close area even in the wind and waves at the jetty. It made moving spots so easy compared to the anchor. In a heavy current situation it did really well too. So far very happy with it. 20170611_160310.jpg 20170611_181828.jpg

Nice action. Snappers are getting close. Bet that jack was a fight. Glad you like the trolling motor. The sure do simplify things.

Sounds like a pretty good outing, all things considered. Big jack, unexpected drum, lots of little action to keep things interesting...and trolling mtr check-out. All done in a limited window. I'm envious!

Good to be back on the water, isn't it? I'm still not back as my motor is still not running right.
I'm sure that your trolling motor will prove to be a godsend. Congrats.

Glad to hear the TM is working out for you. I was just down in the keys and it held my boat under the bridges without an issue. And the currents under those Key bridges are no joke. So many people were asking questions after they had to throw their anchors off and then go back for their anchor ball after chasing down a tarpon lol. So easy with the TM.

It took me a few trips to really learn how to use the motor so don't get frustrated if it moves you somewhere else or something like that. I remember Id get nervous and think something was wrong when I was hitting spot lock and it would kind of drift away from the spot in the first few seconds. Then I learned that it was trying to sense the direction of the current / wind and decide which one was stronger so it knew which way to point the bow. I was blown away by that after I realized it lol.

Yea man I learned quick you need to be facing the wind/current and bring yourself to a stop for it to lock right in. Like you said it will swing you around trying to get you back and it would take a while to get stabilized. Very useful tool so far.
