Four days ago I had a pretty good day on Lake Maitland , so now I`m pumped up and ready to do it again. This time I want to go to Lake Butler . I hear there are some big Bass there however on my last three try's I could not locate them , but what the heck let`s give it a go. John [aka Fl. fish hunter] and I arrive at the ramp 0730 water temperature 67 degrees , turn the key and off we go . I turn the bow to the east and head to a little cove about two miles from the ramp , I hop up on my perch , over goes the trolling motor and our day begins ! Making casts we slowly make our way around the point up into the cove I`m using a crank bait , John try`s a top water bait. After about ten casts I become impatient " you know how it is , just can`t wait for the first bite ", I go to my confidence bait , the trusty Fluke , not more than six casts later "BINGO "first one of the day . We have only been fishing for ten minutes I`m thinking this is going to be a good day, it`s not a big one but it gets you motivated and optimistic about the rest of the day. Unfortunately the little guy swallowed the hook, so I cut the line and left the hook in him than tossed him in the live well to let him recuperate , to be released at the end of the day. I tell John put a fluke on , 8-10 casts later I hook another one , this is also small . After fifteen minutes I tell John " that's enough of these babies , I want Momma & Poppa , I elect to move to a nice flat that sits in 8-9 ft. with a nice grassy bottom , can`t wait to try my swim bait there ! With the turn of the key all I hear is CLICK - CLICK , " what`s going on hear " I look at John with disbelief on my face and a little bit of embarrassment, "I can`t believe this , I just put new batteries in here four days ago ". O-no now what !!! here we are up in a little cove no other boats in sight and the motor won`t start. At this point I `m not sure what the problem could be , it`s a new battery so I am thinking the worst the MOTOR , I am not FEELING GOOD !, "OK Ron get it together, let me think, should I try to use the trolling motor to get back to the ramp which is two miles away or at least get out into the middle of the lake where we could flag down someone ,HUMM well before I do that let me try to swap out one of my trolling batteries " John and I make quick work of it , with fingers crossed I turn the key, RUMM- RUMM I hear the motor , I can`t tell you how relieved I am it was only the battery !!!!! Now let`s get back to the excitement we came here for, I stop at the flat and very reluctantly turn off the motor, we tried for 15 minutes but no takers, I notice the water is very dingy and dirty looking this is not a good sign, I tell John we need to find clean water. With me behind the wheel I look at John and say lets hope , turn the key------ RUMM, RUMM we both laugh and off to the next area . Now I point the boat to the south east to a cove I fished last year where I fell out of the boat { now that's another story I won`t bother to tell you about here , but let me say WEAR your PFD. especially when you are fishing alone} this cove has a nice shore line with Kissimmee Grass , great spot for swimbait and worms or crankbait . I started
