Funny, I had just been complaining to an acquaintance about not catching any Trout in a long time. I found a couple Trout early at the creek mouth entrance to the backwaters. Largest was 19”. He smacked my topwater and moved so fast and pulled so hard I was sure it was a Jack. Followed that itch several misses before finally catching a second.
Further back in the marsh I continued to find the small Snook and one rat Red. Racked up over a dozen Snook, all action prior to 11:00. I did get a few larger this time @20”. The larger ones were tight to structure and unwilling to move in the least to chase their meal. The three around 18-20” all hit when I put the paddletail right in their mouth… hitting the moment it hit the water right on top of a stick-up. The little ones were everywhere and perfectly happy chasing 25 yards all the way back to the yak. Also hooked a small Tarpon which seems odd for this time of year. It came off on the first jump.
Would’ve been a much nicer day if not for the obnoxiously loud talking guys in a jonboat who seemed to constantly move within range over a couple hours. Every time I got outside the range of their high-volume yammering, I would hear the outboard start-up again, and they would run up and down the creeks and over the flats all around for 10 minutes, yelling at each other over the sound of the motor until anchoring once again, seemingly right on the other side of the mangroves from me. I’m guessing they weren’t catching much of anything, given the constant thuds, banging and clanging coming out of the boat.
Had hoped to get about another day this week but had some other stuff come up and my mom arrives Sunday. Probably my last trip until mid Dec when we get back from going to GA.
