    Jessica and I ran out about 20 miles today to some natural bottom. I was surprised to see four other boats already in the area. We find a spot that looked ok and dropped the trolling motor. Within ten minutes a wahoo, yes wahoo, passes by the boat. Clear as day. He then passes by the other side. I pitch a frozen cigar minnow at him as that is what I had rigged and he showed no interest. He made 5 or 6 passes around the boat before deciding to try to eat my trolling motor. Lol. It shook the whole boat a little. Craziest thing I have seen out there in a while. The prop hit him and stunned him for a while before he swam off one final time.

    The bite started a little slow but we did get 3 decent mangos up to 18", a 17.5" mutton that went back in, a 14" black sea bass and a few grasbys.

    Jessicas freelined cigar minnow gets slammed by her first dolphin. She gets it pretty close but I made the reach and stuck it in the tail and the gaff slipped right out of my hand. Lol. Good thing it floats. Second try gets it in the boat. She was super excited.

    I droped a live grunt down towards the bottom and hook up. Strong fish. Land a 25# amberjack. My personal best. Kind of suprised to see him there.

    Overall really cool day. That wahoo was nuts. Can't. Wait till next time.

    Really nice 'phin Mike. Tell Jessica congrats! That is one crazy story about the Wahoo. It just highlights the biggest reason why I love offshore fishing...you just never know what you're going to see out there. Gotta love it!
    I agree the fishing seems to be picking up out there. We had some pretty nice fish slam our lines today. Congrats on the PR Amberjack too. I know your arms are feeling the burn tonight.

    Good job you two! Sounds like you need to carry a spear gun out with you on your fishing trips. Its been done before when they are that close to the boat it makes for an easy target.

    I wasn't gonna ask but the speargun comment leads to the could you have free gaffed the wahoo question? I know folks do it to mahi and cobia but never heard of a free gaffed wahoo.

    I would have to look it up to make sure it is legal. I believe it is. It would be a wild ride for sure as this was a big fish. Most of the time he was out of reach as well. The closest he got was when he bit the motor. It would have been awesome to put that bad boy in the box for sure.
