Been a few since I posted been busy,
This morning 5:00AM I rolled up to my partners house to pick him up for a day of prefishing on the winterhaven south chain for a upcoming tournament we have,
We have only fished this chain one time prior in last summer of 16, we found fish then but nothing big and the only way we could get a bite was worming.
Today's trip on the other hand was a blast, let me start by saying the lake levels are very low but all the canals that connect lakes are still passable.
We got out on the water around 6:45 we launched at shipp lake ramp which was a really nice ramp with several lanes to launch. The first thing we noticed was yellow marks on the dock and signs saying ramp ends here. We watched two different ppl launching drive back to far and get stuck, let's say we learned from there mistake and we're able to launch safely.
We travels across shipp lake the north side where the structure looked good and began fishin, I was throwing a booyah frog and my partners was flipping a dinger.
This spot only produced one bite on my partners rig but we're unsuccessful on hooking into it.
We left this area and headed to the more south lakes of the chain.
We happen to stop in a little tight area where we caught a couple little fish first time we were at this lake.
After working this area over my partner caught a decent 2.5 lb bass approx. we were useing flukes and this fish was caught just outside of some pads. We did the high five thing and left so we didn't burn out our fishing hole.
We troll away and get to a larger area that we're lined with pads and cat tails and I hooked into one this one was approx just under 2 pounds, I was discribing to my partner where I threw and said it hit about five foot outside the pads, he casted to the exact spot and said like this and bam he had one hooked, this was a smaller fish but it would of made the live well, we commented on how we would have our three for tournament by 8:00am.
We left this hole and used the big motor to scout for brush piles or structure with the electronics, I noticed there were three boats fishing open water out in the middle so we ran some crank baits as we scouted but it was to weedy and we kept getting hung up, we bailed this mission and took off to just look for a good area.
We pulled up to what looked like a good area and started fishing this area throwing flukes up into the cypress trees and finally got a hit I landed this fish but it was a gar so we immediately left the area because as I rule I don't fish where gar are biting.
We moved into a canal that joins two lakes and the banks looked like they would hold good fish, the sun was shining and there was a little breeze but water clarity was good I could see bass in the shade by spooked it trying to get my bait to it. We fished this area and I kept seeing fish swim thru the canal right next to the boat so I started casting behind the boat and dragging my fluke thru the center of the canal, it was really neat watching a bass turn and go after my bait and attack it.
Got this one into the boat and it would of culled out the small fish,
We entered the lake and fished but no luck thru the lake.
We went to another area of a lake we were previously in and fished the grass structure along the shore that's when I hooked into a nice 4lb 11oz bass got that into the boat and took pictures and high fives this occurred at 10:35 which was the end of the fishing minor of fish times when my partner said there's more moving around in there he pulled out a fish outta there also it was around 2 1/2 lb at this time we would of had approx 9 lbs in the live well,
Again we left this area not to burn out our new found hole.
On the way back towards the ramp we were at idle speed and my partner was standing on the deck and seen a bass he said hold up I put the boat in reverse to stop us quicker and he threw deep into some pads, the bass blew up on this bait and headed straight down into the pads, I seen the size of the tail and instantly threw the boat back into reverse running right into the pads, my partner kept his line tight and as I got closer was able to pull the bass out of the pads, high fives took place once again we went to weigh him but the sun heated my scale up to much if you ask him how much it weighed he will tell you 4lbs 12 oz but I think it was more 4lbs 10 oz This occurred around noon.
We continued to a different lake and had a few good hits and grabbed a couple dinks, we ended our day about 1:30 and the three fish that would of remained for weigh in was approx 11+ lbs.
It was a good day for us and we had fun and hopefully the fish will be there on tournament day.
I just want to point out that I'm the guy with my shirt on in the pictures also I don't do much justice holding fish because I'm 6'8"
Thanks for reading my report/ story
