image.jpeg Got to Port Canaveral at 6:15 but wan't able to launch until around seven because of the line of boats waiting to launch. I thought there must be some kind of tournament but it turned out to be everyone wanting to get out on the flat, windless ocean. 95% were going out to deep water, only four boat (including me) were at the jetty.

I had some frozen shrimp I brought but had also bought a couple dozen live shrimp "just in case". As it turns out, the frozen shrimp worked just fine. I got to the jetty at 7:30 (long walk from the back of the parking lot back to my boat... I had one of the last parking spots) and decided to anchor on the North side, near the beach. I was in about four feet of clear water about 40 yards from the beach. By 7:45 I had my first flounder in the lunchbox and there was a steady bite from then on. Aside from the occasional undersized sheephead, a few jacks and one keeper (13") mangrove, it was flounder heaven. I enjoy catching flounder, a little challenging for this old man to show the patience necessary to let them take the bait before setting the hook. Ended up with a limit (10) of 13-17" flounder by 10:30 and enjoyed the hell out of my solo trip. Gave the rest of my frozen shrimp to a couple of older folks on the south side of the jetty and headed back to the ramp. The boats on the South side of the jetty were also on flounder, one boat that arrived at the same time as me followed me to the ramp, also bagging a limit. Another fun day on the water, much different than shrimping - have to stuff some of these flounder with shrimp! Cheers.

Nice work! Classic got to go to know. Based on your report the flattie were thick and you made out with a good haul. One of my favorite things to do is stuffed flouder with local shrimp and crabs that I caught. Enjoy the good eats!

After I had 8, I put them in the livewell and made sure the last two were decent. The first one I caught was the largest, a gnats whisker shy of 18". No doormats but some good eats.

I actually tried a few techniques, the one that worked best was Captain Bob's reel a little slowly, let it sit a few seconds, then do it again (and again and again).

  16. Awesome haul of fatty flatties, KB! I'm 95% catch n release these days, but flounder are one of those fish that I love to take home...fried, baked, or made into fish cakes! Delish!

Best inshore report I've read in awhile Ken. It was a very smart move to stay inshore. While the other guys were burning gas, you were burning drag! Love it. A bit surprised you caught them on frozen shrimp. Did you get any on livies? Also did you try any other baits or lures while on the water? Inquiring minds need to know.
