Third time was the charm. A month ago one of my co captains asked me if I wanted to go on my first gator hunt. Well hell yes I wanna go so I purchased my agents permit and off we went. Our first hunt was a bust as was the second. However the third trip was the one.

left work with my two hunting partners at dark and the hunt was on. Being the season closes on the 31st the pressure was on. About two hours after dark one of my buddies sees one takes a quick cast and snags her. He quickly handed me the rod and it was game on. After about 20 minutes we had her boatside and knew we were gonna take her. I was relieved of the rod and handed a harpoon. Gave her a good stick and had a few minutes of tug of war on the hand line. Then I was handed a bang stick. They showed me where to hit her and I completely missed and dropped the bang stick. I reached down under the murky water and immediately was pulled back. I forgot there was still a very live gator right there!!! They handed me the back up bang stick and this time I hit the mark. She taped out at 8 feet 6 inches.

had a great time and will most definitely apply for tags next year.

your agent should of had a rope with a float on the bang stick.

I hunted with two friends. The tag was in one of their names. I had to purchase an agents license so I could “assist” in the hunt.

It really was an experience. Would definitely do it again. It’s actually the first thing I’ve ever hunted for.
    Thanks guys

Haha, That will get your heart pumping fast and make you do things without thinking. At least you didn't jump in to get the bang stick. It was a good thing that you had someone with you that had done this before. The only reason I say that is knowing the small things like cutting the nerve behind the head. It is an adrenaline pumping thing as it's going down. Congratulations!

Great work. I went on one hunt when I was young and fearless. It took two of us to pull that gator into the boat. The gator meat was excellent. Please continue to share the excitement of gator hunting with all who dare to fight the skeeters and feel the rush of getting your first gator.
