YES- while stone crab traps are usually a smaller box you can catch just as many in a wire blue crab trap. If you read the trap specs by Florida law- both stone and blue recreational traps can be up to 24 x 24 x 24 and can be made of wood or wire, Recreational traps must be marked with an "R" on the buoy (both stone and blue) and have the owners name and address affixed to the trap. You are allowed to have 5 stone traps and 5 blue crab traps per Florida license, Recreational take of legal sixed stone claws is limited to 1 gallon per person with a 2 gallon boat max.

If you are trapping with wire blue traps in the ICW you will have to add extra weight to keep the current from pushing them around. We use a rebar square affixed to the bottom of the trap up to 18 lbs depending on how much current/tide movement is in the area we fish. More weight closer to the inlet and just 4-6 lbs in the Titusville area because of no tide.

Technically- you can have 5 blue crab traps and 5 stone crab traps per FL fishing license but stones can only be fished from Oct 15 to May 15.

Wow, thank you very much for that info. That's gonna definitely help me in future. I've been laid up with health problems for a while so can't wait to try this.
