    True....

without getting into all the details, because I'm winging it...

The ECO system will have plants that filter the water and Koi pond, there will be a feed drain in the ECO pond that uses gravity to flow to the KOI pond, and the Koi will have a flowing back into the ECO pond, The Koi pond will have a bakki shower flowing... thus filtering it.

there will be fish that eat the skeeters and a floating boi skimmer with plants in it... there may be a fountain, and air-ration etc... all brainstorming as I research the subject...

Hey bro hope your doing well!!!
very cool project Sam, sounds like a sustainable environment for the koi once u get it finished. And it'll look awesome with plantscaping.

How do u keep the raccoons and herons from attacking your koi?

The ECO pond will not have Koi in it, the KOI pond will be in back of my house close to the lanai and will have shade cloth over it. most people place netting over the water... I don't think I will need any? Time will tell..

as far as herons go, as long as you make the sides deeper then 2 ft they will not be able to stand in the water... I will design accordingly... this is a long tern project.. Still need to drain the ECO pond and make it deeper, and add piping etc...

I have a lot of projects going on right now to keep me busy...

Herons, beautiful as they are, are pesky rascals. I found out that no matter how deep the water is, they can still spear fish from the sides... and they can shockingly flip fish as large as 20 inches out of the water, often doing severe damage to the fish... even fish they are incapable of swallowing!

Looks like the project is coming right along! It's definitely a long term deal, as you have to figure out what works in your situation. Fun stuff!
I dont know why this thing is telling me I need at least 20 characters. I have at LEAST that many! Lol!

Wow, that's really incredible. I'm doubly impressed because we had a pond stocked with fish in KY, but we ruined it. One year it filled up with cattails and the fish all died. We drained it and thinned out the cattails but it never held water again after that no matter what we tried. So...I really appreciate what you've done there and am super impressed!
