and took some photos before nightfall and after night fall.

I also took some photos of the Cast-netting Catwalk area.

As you may already know, the Titusville shrimping pier is a very popular shrimping place for Anglers without boats. You are allowed to shrimp with dip nest from on the pier and cast net shrimp from the sea walls and catwalks.

The employees from the restaurant handle the lottery system, they only start doing this when the shrimping gets active(like late November thru March)
they don't charge anything to use the pier I think it would end up being to complicated since the restaurant handles this and any fees would likely go to
the city. They usually hand out the tickets sometime around 6ish and no one is allowed to take their shrimping gear onto the pier until your number has
been drawn, this is a good way to handle this during peak shrimping season because there are several retirees that can get there at 3:00 p.m. and stake out
what are considered to be the prime spots. When there not doing the lottery you can take your gear on the pier as soon as you get there.

Titusville Veteran's Memorial Fishing Pier

History

In 1922 a two lane bridge was constructed across the Indian River Lagoon. In 1949 the recently replaced swing-span bridge was constructed. Titusville purchased a 600 foot portion of the old bridge for use as a fishing pier. It became very popular with fishermen and shrimpers from far and wide. Many a family supper was obtained here. Catching bait fish & shrimp was a part of our local economy. It was a beautiful place to take the family or a special friend for a picturesque walk.

In February 1977 a Gold Star Mothers' plaque was installed dedicating the pier as a memorial to those who served our country in the Armed Forces. It was stolen sometime in 2004 and replaced in March, 2008.

Starting in 2000 the pier had to be closed numerous times for repair. In October, 2005 hurricanes caused serious damage to the pier. Two boats that came loose from their moorings compounded the damage significantly. Planning to repair this popular part of Titusville's heritage, industry and recreation has been underway for years.

In May, 2006 the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) agreed to pay a part of the repair costs. Studies were started. In July, 2007, the amount of repair/replacement costs FEMA would reimburse was increased to over 3 million dollars. More studies were started. The original design company was replaced with one that would plan a lower, more fishing friendly pier. A 2009 opening date is being contemplated.

On March 7, 2008 a replacement memorial plaque was "rededicated" and the concession stand opened. A small finger pier is available for the public.

Rules of Conduct

1. Free Admission.
2. Pier light usage fees and fishing/shrimping zones shall be at the concessionaire's direction.
3. Railings at handicap-accessible areas will be lowered by the pier concessionaire.
4. No cast netting.
5. No generators, wet cell batteries or fuel lanterns.
6. No animals allowed except service animals.
7. No loud sounds or loud music.

8. No soliciting.
9. No horseplay, skateboarding, roller blading, bicycles or similar devices.
10. No glass containers.
11. No alcohol except that which is purchased from the pier concessionaire.
12. The pier concessionaire has the authority to request persons believed to be in violation of any of the rules to leave the pier.
Answers to some common questions:
1. Are the plugs 110 v ac Yes.

2. How long does my dip net need to be to reach the water Minimum of 8 feet.

3.Can you stay overnight Yes, but no camping.

4. Are crab pots allowed? No.

5. Is the pier free to use? The pier is free to use except for the use of lights.

6. Please advise regarding the type of lights one may use and or availible for rent. There are various types of 3 prong twist plugs available but what is needed at the Titusville Pier is a NEMA L520 or L520P, 20amp, 125 volt, 3 prong twist plug. At this time, due to theft, there is no electrical equipment available for rent on site but many different types of shrimp lights can be purchased from various hardware or outdoor sporting goods stores. The current charge for electrical usage at the pier is $6.00 per night.

7. Are generators and/or deep cell batteries allowed? No.

8. Is the pier ADA friendly? Yes, there are even sections that can be lowered for those in wheelchairs providing greater access.

9. How do you secure a spot for shrimping at night? Spots are done through a lottery system at 6:00 p.m. each night.

10. Do I need a salt water fishing license? Yes, as this is a free fishing pier. See #13 below.

11. Are shrimp traps permitted? Shrimp traps are permitted on the Veterans Memorial Pier as long as users follow Florida State Statute 63B-31.007. A few highlights of the statute are: Harvesters can use up to 4 shrimp traps; The dimensions cannot exceed 36" long by 24" wide by 12" high; The harvester's name and address shall be securely affixed to each trap; Any shrimp trap on public property which is not attended by the person whose name is affixed to the trap is subject to confiscation by the commission.

12. How does a beginner learn about how to shrimp and what equipment is needed? The best way to learn to shrimp is to go out to the Pier, watch them, talk to the shrimpers, as each of them probably have different opinions of best equipment. The Pier Concessionaire has staff on site that might be able to assist with information. The Titusville Veterans Memorial Fishing Pier phone number is (321)-264-5065.

13. Can my Shoreline fishing license be used on the Titusville Veterans Memorial Pier? According to the FWC web site, myfwc.com, "Residents who only saltwater fish from land or a structure attached to land, may get the resident recreational saltwater shoreline fishing license at no cost. If you have a resident recreational saltwater fishing license you do not need a shoreline fishing license because the resident recreational saltwater fishing license covers fishing from the shore, dock, jetty or boat." So according to the web site your resident recreational saltwater shoreline fishing license covers you on any saltwater shoreline or attached structure. Please reference myfwc.com for any additional information or exceptions.

When you turn off of Max Brewer Memorial Pkwy, you will drive over the first Catwalk on the North side. The second Catwalk is on the South side, you will need to walk under the bridge to get to it. You can Castnet from both Catwalks.
