Had a great time at my buddies farm in South GA. @3,000 acres just south of Albany. Covid had screwed-up our usual annual hunts the past couple years. Hunted from my climber in the same tree for all five hunts. Was covered in witness deer. It was like grand central.
Sat am - saw 3 going in and 17 from the stand, 1 was a small buck
Sat pm - 5 does and 2 bucks
Sun am - 4 going in, 14 from stand, 2 were bucks
    Sun pm - 3 does
    Mon am - 10 does, 4 bucks
Best ones were a nice 8 point and a good 10 point. Decided to only shoot with my camera and let them all grow until next year, and hopefully not be shot on a neighboring property. Unfortunately that’s a strategy that hasn’t seemed to pay off in the past…
Looks like maybe we’ll mange another hunt the first weekend in Dec, which should also be timed with the rut. Fingers crossed.

So much easier to stay in the stand a long time when you are seeing them…

Your buddy's farm appears to have a healthy population of deer. Thanks for sharing the great pics. With that many deer in one location I bet I could bag one with my paint gun!!:)

  11. Nice pictures. Definitely easier to stay alert when your seeing wildlife throughout the time in the stand.

nice pics there, nice you saw a lot of action...I am glad to hear you let the bucks walk, based on the photos you had some really great shooting opportunities...I had a 8 walk by today about the same size as the one you have in your pics...I know the strategy of letting them walk so they will grow sometimes seems to not pay off, however we need to spread the word and get adjoining property owners to do the same management and eventually it pays off. It took about 8 years up here in our area to get everyone to agree to let the small bucks walk and now we are seeing a lot of really nice 140-160 class bucks on our game cameras. The rut is starting here in NY and we are seeing a lot of bucks chasing does...hopefully a shooter will come my way...I am trying to beat a 155 - 16 point I have hanging on the wall, so I have let a lot of bucks walk by the past several years. The does are the best eaters so I will get the freezer full eventually. Did you take your pics with a phone? They are quite good. Also did you have any doe tags it looks as though you could have shot a doe?

I shot two does the prior couple weeks during bow season up at my cabin. That’s what my wife and I will go through in one year so did t need any more meat. Georgia is way too liberal with the number they let you shoot IMO. 12 deer, 2 bucks. Legal or not, 10 does per hunter is way too many.
Yeah, a 155 16 pt is a monster, and makes it tough if you restrict yourself to only shooting larger than your previous. Hopefully you will get another big boy in your sights soon.
Pics were taken with my Canon SLR and a Sigma 150-600mm lens.

Great pictures and lots of deer. Our area in western Ct. and eastern NY had a bad case of EHD which causes a virus that has a bad fever with it so the deer go to water and then die there. So it is easy to do an estimate of how many deer you lose with this virus which is transmitted by small flies like black flies, midges, etc. I spent today taking my oldest grandson out for pheasant and then doing some deer scouting. I found some scrapes and rubs but not much. This is the third year having EHD out breaks in our location. I belong to a gun club that has a lot of land on the west side of the Hudson River and further west in Orange county. I may have to go there this year. I would be interested in knowing about any quality hunting lodges in southern Georgia or south-western SC. We may change locations for next year.

There has been a lot of CWD or something similar breaking out in the north GA mountains the past couple years. Sounds a lot like what you are talking about. I used to hunt leases in middle Georgia and some north of Atlanta many years ago. Middle and south Ga is always where the numbers were and the largest deer for the most part but a decade ago when I was looking at leasing costs I couldn’t believe how expensive they were anymore. I mean I don’t know how some of these guys with average incomes can do it. At least not on a ratio of close to at least 100 acres per member. I’m lucky to have some acreage bordering national forest and management areas, and a friend with a few thousand acre farm, otherwise I’m not sure I could justify the cost.
I’ll let you know if I hear of any recommended deer hunting lodges. I know there are a lot of them around.

There are a number of places/plantations/whatever that offer 3-5 day deer hunts. Used to be $1500 for 3 days, 1 buck/1 doe kind of hunts.

I haven't looked into it in recent history. Georgia outdoor news magazine probably is the best place to look for ads.
