One of my hobbies was Raising Chickens

Got some fertile eggs from a breeder, put them in a incubate and hatched them.

    Here they are hatching

  4. Great post. A lot of people don't realize that live chicks are still mailed through the U. S. Postal Service, although I'll bet this time of year they feel kinda cramped with all the Christmas packages.

Joan is my chicken farmer. She had over 50 at one time. Down to 8. The eggs are delicious! She started with mail order chicks, then setting hens, then incubator.

if you are going to raise them for eggs, look for chickens that lay large eggs.
if you are going to free range them, get an automatic door.
    use watering nipples,
    use gravity feeder.
make sure your chicken coop is racoon proof.
make sure your coop is egg gathering friendly.
in spring a lot of farm feed places sell chicks
I prefer to get the eggs and hatch them my self, the drawback is that you also get roosters, at the feed places you get all hens.

chickens like a lot of shade, and natural cover.
