Had an opportunity to get out this morning with fellow member Dave Rivera. Low tide was showing to hit at about 8:30 so we were pulling away from my dock at 6:15am. Live shrimp was the bait of the day but we both had several strikes now and then on jigs. Wasn’t much surface or baitfish activity that we could see while running down the ICW but the bite was on as soon as we got our lines wet. Dave caught the first, a nice Whiting if I remember right. Actually the only Whiting I have seen on the ICW side since moving here. I didn’t actually think they came this far up/down river. We both had several hits early on, and Dave caught a barely legal Mangrove and I got a Jack and a Sailcat before moving. We continued to get a lot of bites for and hour and a half or so. Lots of stolen bait as well as boating quite a few. Dave caught a couple of nice trout and I caught one. All sent back to grow a little. I caught another keeper Mangrove and a nice Drum. Dave caught a drum that was sent back. There were a few more short Mangroves caught and Dave had no problem decimating the catfish population, although his seemed to get smaller the more he brought in.
We moved around a little bit but didn’t do very well after the tide got close to changing over. One other fellow we spoke too also did well at first light but nothing after like us.
Always wish you caught more but not a bad morning.
