We started out early about January 15th from Inlet Marina Villages marina to site #5, since I was told by a friend he had caught many doormat size flounder at that spot. We used live menhaden bait, and as usual, as my bad skunked luck would have it, after about 3 hours we only caught a medium sized shark and a small red snapper. There were 3 of us fishing on my Angler 22 ft CC there were also a half dozen other boats and there didn’t seem to be any action on their part. Par for the course for me. I ‘m thinking I need a Captain fishing guide aboard since for many years my fishing luck has been terrible. I guess “ better luck next time.”

Sometimes that’s the way it goes. Probably takes a lot of offshore trips to get it figured out. Guess you have to have a plan B and Plan C in your back pocket so you can move and try other spots when you aren’t getting action.

Sorry to hear of your dilemma! Have you got it figured out yet?

Pretty much - have you figured it out yet?

Site 5 and other nearshore spots are tough cause they get HAMMERED.

We used to fish for fluke up north and they were an open bottom kind of fish. The flounder down here aren't really like that, they like structure. Scuba divers take a lot of them off the bottom adjacent to wrecks and rock piles. It is almost insulting to fish and area, then the scuba guys come in and limit in like 5 minutes.
