    The Good
    The Bad

Back in Nov 16, 2015 I started a campaign to not allow paid boat ramp launch and park... (see link)
    http://www.shrimpnfishflorida.com/f...yrna-beach-boat-ramps-to-be-10-00-a-day.4471/

    The Good
We had City hall filled with standing room only...

    The Bad

Seems this year they slipped this proposal past us...

    The Good
However, seems that they listened to us last time, we suggested that if the ramp was going to be a paid ramp, that we wanted Volusia or New Smyrna Beach Resident to have free access or a yearly pass. Seems that they chose to let all New Smyrna Beach Resident's have free access with proof of residency.

So starting this April 2018 all out of town Resident's will have to pay a Launch and Park fee...

Sorry Members I worked hard trying to keep it free for everyone, but you know politics, they slipped this one by us... But at least anyone going boating that lives in New Smyrna will have free access... So maybe you will want to buddy up with your friends that live in New Smyrna Beach...

Always good to know whats happening around town... I'm glad I live in New Smyrna, but for others, they need to know that they will be charged ten bucks to launch and Park... I think they are also going to be ticketing for road side parking... So no more parking on the grass shoulder of the road..

Sam, do you know if they are going to offer a yearly pass for out of town residents? This really sucks for me, I only live 3 miles from Swoopes, but will have to pay since I'm a resident of Port Orange.
    Oh....the cost of boat ownership...aaarrrggghhh.

Wow 10 bucks! Talk about wanting to pay for itself and start making money quick. I’ve seen these on the gulf side but at a much more reasonable 3-5 bucks. Does the 10 bucks include vallet service? Lol. It would be interesting to see the kind of funds taken in and where they are appropriated to.

It will now be cheaper for those of us North of New Smyrna to launch from Dunlawton in Port Orange and drive the boat to the inlet. What a shame!

I think that is their plan, bring in income, while relieving the overflow parking on the roads. boaters from Orlando may start going to the Cape, and others from surrounding areas may go to the other free boat-ramps while they are still free... However I think other boat-ramps will soon all be pay to play.

The Dunlawton boat-ramp parking will soon be overflowing, same will happen to the edgewater boat ramp!

That's going to be a mad house when they open it up to taking money because people will be so slow not knowing how to use it for the first time and having to learn it. I feel that they should have an attendant there for the first month or so. It's going to really be backed up.

I emailed City Officials and received the following response:

    Hello **********,
Thank you for contacting me regarding fees. Before I became a civic leader
for our City, I spoke publicly at Commission meetings in opposition to boat fees
for New Smyrnans. After all we already pay city taxes and we also contribute
to the Florida Inland Navigational District. As a Commissioner I endorsed the
same considerations for our citizens. In a compromise our city decided to charge
only boaters that live outside the District. Those would be boaters from inland
counties that are not on the Intracoastal Waterway. Even though I would have
preferred not to charge anyone, I think it is a very good deal that our local
citizens do not pay. I do realize that many boaters with larger boats and
trailers from outside the F.I.N.D. do impact our roads and ramps. So maybe
it is a good deal for us and we do collect some fees from visitors. The best
part of the proposed boat ramp fee is that it is free for New Smyrnans and
Volusians as well. I am hopeful that you agree and that we are looking out
for the best interest for our citizens.
    Respectfully,

    Jake

So maybe it does include all of Volusia?

If it's free for all citizens of Volusia County that's fine. I haven't heard all the details yet but that's what the commissioner made it sound like. I actually wouldn't be opposed to paying a annual fee. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if they do collect money, it should go for enlarging the parking area, it's a joke. Thanks for the information Sam we appreciate it.

    Thanks Sam,
I seen this happen in Wisconsin. Starts with one county and spreads like wildfire. It was $5 bucks in early 80’s. We are going to be lucky if it is free for Volusia County.
I wonder how they are going to identify your residence.
