Went up north to get dad. Bit off a bit too much and booked a charter outta RI. Dad slept in, BIL had high blood pressure so stayed w dad, buddy cancelled - sis and cousin went w me. 3 of us.

wanted a couple striper fillets and found the run over. We used to get striper til mid Nov. not this year.

drug umbrella rigs a couple hours for some 12# ish blues and looked for bass. Reeled in 5 blues, put 4 on ice. I got to reel in 2 at once.

was getting tedious trolling in fig 8s over rips, so we switched to bottom fishing. Black sea bass, porgies, and a couple tautog.

Bottom fishing was fasted paced, weeding thru fish for keepers. Mostly sea bass and porgies. Think we got 4 tautog.

Sorry you missed out on the Stripers and lost some of your fishing partners, but still sounds like you got some good action.

we had fun, woulda been more fun w the others but things happen. Fir sure.

the big fish were scarce but bottom fishing was an every drop kind of thing. Wife asked how many fish we caught total and told here 1,000. I wouldn’t be surprised if i caught 100.

just “sh*t fishing” as we call it. As many as possible vs more quality fish. But i chose the try for big fish over targeting just tautog or just sea bass and being on better quality fish.

I went on a charter once that all we could find were Black Sea bass and it was hundreds of them. Hours and hours of as soon as your rig hit bottom your pulled up two fish. I was literally sick and tired of catching fish.
You have any deer hunts coming up?

That sounds like torture. Especially if they were lil ones.

    ML this weekend. 3 days.

got out scouting 3 times around the hurricane, area closure, and various other stuff. Found a couple rubs at road crossings and 1 scrape w camera. Watched a field and seen deer activity. Set a camera and will pull it on opening morning.

dad doesnt want to deer hunt so gonna turn the rifle permit back in. We’re talking about trying for shallow water grouper on the west coast at that time. Scout for ducks too.

hiw did arechery go for you?

Thanks for the report but sorry you didn't get your striper! They are a great tasting fish!
I used to live in CT on the coast of Long Island Sound. Great fishing memories. We used to catch Blues to 25 pounds! Now the WICC Bluefish contest winners are in the 12-14 pound area. I caught a Blackfish one time that had blue bones in it! It tasted fine!
The think I miss the most was fall fishing for Porgies. I'd fill a small cooler and smoke them all for winter eats! So good!

It is a fun place to fish. Plenty of variety. Fresh and salt.

That’s about the size of the porgies.

i miss fishing the fall moons at night.

Sounds like a rough start to what turned out to be a fun trip. Congrats on having some fun.

Tough luck on the Stripers. I used to fish for them in the Chesapeake Bay near Annapolis Maryland. When I couldn't find them trolling Tony A. Spoons or bucktails I would chum them up with blue crab and catch them on quartered crab. Sure do miss the striper fishing. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Tight Lines.

The early fall had stripers everywhere from the Throgs Neck/Whitestone bridges in the western Sound area all the way to Montauk and Block Island. But they did take off for the southern waters earlier than usual.
Bottom fishing was fantastic all fall for porgies, tog and sea bass. When a bunker school came by our anchored boat (spot lock trolling motor) I would cast for blues and bass. We easily would catch 150 fish on a single tide. LI Sound can be one of the most productive fishing spots on the entire Atlantic coast.
