Trying to decide on side console for boat - they sell plastic ones and windshields for about $400. Or should I make it and then add a windshield to keep spray off the fish finder?

Looking like console may end up just behind the split bench or on it.

Chomping at the bit to get the price quote. Hoping they don't fix and service the motor and then give me a price. They are gonna tear the thing down to replace the bracket and it would be perfect time to do the conversion.

I had a windshield on my KeyWest that I never thought made a difference. My wife fell against it and broke it and I see no difference now that it’s gone. Maybe if I wanted to lean way forward with my face almost on the steering wheel. I don’t think the ones on my old Ranger bass boat or my boat before that did anything either….

    Thanks, Mak. Good stuff.

i want the windshield only to protect electronics from spray.

when i was younger we’d run a 20+\- cc and hid behind windshield when it was wet and windy. Otherwise as you mentioned.

Can’t imagine why he won’t let you pay and reimburse later if it’s covered. That’s BS.

Wet electronics can be hazardous to your health. I have never had a windshield that stayed fully intact. My current boat lost its windshield to a fishing buddy who lost his footing stepping off the back deck. I had a gator jump in my boat and with one swipe of his tail wiped out my windshield. Just to state a fact, Simon Peter is not the only human to walk on water. Tight Lines.

Wow - that had to be quite a surprise. Not a gator - but was fishing with a guy back early 2000's out of Canaveral and he hooks a "10 ft" thresher shark about 15-20 miles out on a live mullet. Thing jumped a lot - first jump was broadside and clear image of what we were dealing with. After a handful of jumps it starts greyhounding towards the boat - guy asks me, what do we do if it jumps in the boat? Told him I was going in the water if that shark was in the boat.

Buddies and friends and coworkers and family and whoever else we bring out usually do quite a job on the boat and tackle - stepping and falling on stuff.

My whole concept for the windshield is to keep the salt spray off the back of the electronics - nothing fancy.

Gonna call the marina today and see what's up.

Good news from marina - Merc covered the parts and labor. My bill is less than $800 for 300 hr svc and fixing the corrosion on lower unit.

gonna pick up tomorrow and try to get ready for Saturday.

Picked up the boat and got the Minn Kota installed. Ran 6 gauge from the battery to the plug (60 amp fuse on positive).

Rigged a bracket under front bow for plug and circuit breaker - used 3x3 heavy aluminum angle iron. Not liking the visible/loose wires so will do something with those.

Used a big/heavy 3 prong plug but need to cause not supposed to charge battery while connected to motor. Easy to disconnect by just pulling it out.

Put on new prop, swapped out a rod holder with a lure caught in it, and a few other things.

Need to rig the downrigger on there, wife's new seat, move battery, rig a bilge pump bracket (to hold it in place - think flat aluminum stock bent at a 90 and pop rivetted to the bilge).

Weather looks good this weekend but not going tomorrow with an east wind, Monday looks better. We'll see. Sunday looks like a beach kind of thing... As with the weather, plans might change.

    2 weeks til red snapper.

    Private ramp...

Modified fish plans to go tomorrow since Sunday & Monday are showing afternoon storms. Be leaving at 0500, get bait, etc. Should be at fishing grounds by 8. An hour to inlet, then an hour out - an hour for bait?

She ran good. The new prop runs a lil slower than the old one and faster thru slow zones.

need to determine fuel consumption next.

so far so good. Installed motor, 60 amp breaker, heavy duty plug (disconnect motor when charge battery).

The remote control is serious. Easy to use, push button and it holds the boat. Was cavitating a lil, figure i need to adjust boat balance.

also got a downrigger installed this weekend, will use it next trip.

    also installed led bow lights.

Looks good. I’ve made index marks on the shaft of my motor so I know how deep it can be when I’m running super shallow and standing on the bow vs moving around the boat when the prop gets pulled up out of the water…

Blue Runner is what we came up with for a name.

I did the bilge pump discharge - came straight up into the splash well and then 90 degrees to the starboard side with thru hull. Had issues with no-one making a 90 with barbs on each end and a thru hull/bulkhead fitting all in one.

Bilge pump to 3/4 inch hose to threaded 3/4 inch nipple to 3/4 PVC threaded coupling to 3/4 threaded 90 to thru hull.

Rigged another bait tank - got tired of the 10-gallon water cooler and then did one with an older coleman cube cooler - back to 10-gallon garbage can. Feed is a 500-gallon rule pump on outside transom. Aerator is bait saver setup - it has paid for itself many times over, has to be 15 years old. Discharge hose goes over the side. Clear so I can see the water flow cause can't hear it.

We had 15 6-inch mullet in there on Thursday night. Will foam up with mullet in the bucket.
