I am not sure about other bait shops but donalds at dunlawton rarely has live mullet. I know some people use blue crab chunks or whole smaller crabs for some of the big boys. I would think if they swim by a piece of shrimp or chunk of frozen mullet they would likely eat it too. I use live mullet when I can get it as I know it works well.

Mike, What are you using for terminal tackle? Something like a "knocker rig", which I understand to be a slip sinker, like an egg type for example, and then a leader with circle hook for the live bait?

I usually use a pyramid when fishing the north side of jetty where there are very few if any rocks. It seems to hold better for me. I know some people dont like them. Usually use a 4oz if it will hold. I put weight, bead, swivel, about 2 feet leader then about a 5/0 circle. When fishing dirty water like it has been I will run a 60lb mono leader. In clearer I use 30 or 40 floro. That is just a typical setup I use but often change weight, leader, rig style based on conditions.

Nice fish! Guess its not as rough as they said? I am heading out tomorrow. I might just hit the creeks like I have been doing.

It will be really rough out tomorrow. Will be too rough to fish the outside of the jetty. I know some fish have been caught inside of the protection of the jetty. I always seem to do better outside.

I would tweak your rig to enhance your catches.

    pyramids are for surf fishing.

    At the jetty:
I use 2 - 3 oz egg or bank sinker.
    swivel.
4 - 5 ft leader at the jetty for Reds and snook
12" leader for Mango's, Sheep's and Black Drum.
8/0 wide gap circle hook for Reds
    #2 Kahle hook for mango's,
#2 stout J hook for sheep's and black drum.
40lb leader for Reds and shook
20lb leader for mango's, sheep's and black drum.
