Riverside Fishing Pier At Smyrna Dunes Park - Info And Photos

    New Smyrna Beach, FL
    – riverside fishing pier at Smyrna Dunes Park, 2995 N. Peninsula Ave., New Smyrna Beach.

The new 350 feet long and 10 feet wide fishing pier is located on the east shore of the Intracoastal Waterway at Ponce de Leon Inlet. The construction includes concrete piling, two shade structures, benches and a handrail for more accessible fishing for those who are handicapped. The deck and the handrail are composite lumber made out of recycled plastic.

Smyrna Dunes Park is 184 acres of land on the south end of Ponce de Leon Inlet, surrounded by water on 3 sides. Many people swim, sunbathe and fish there, making it one of the most popular coastal parks in the area. It is also one of the only pet-friendly parks in the area where owners can bring leashed pets into the river and inlet beaches.

    New Smyrna Dunes Park
    Location:
2995 N. Peninsula Ave., New Smyrna Beach
    Open daily: Sunrise to sunset
Admission: $10 per vehicle. $20 annual inlet parks pass.

    Park office: 386-424-2935

Visitors to Smyrna Dunes Park may arrive by land or by sea. Perched on 73 acres of pristine land at the northern tip of the New Smyrna Beach peninsula, the area is surrounded by water on three sides. Waters from the Indian River flow through Ponce Inlet and into the Atlantic Ocean providing a variety of fishing or swimming venues for park goers.

The park also provides a unique opportunity for naturalists, ecologists, students and the general public to see a wide variety of animals, birds, reptiles, marine life and vegetation in their natural habitat. The surrounding waters provide excellent fishing, boating and swimming opportunities.

The park consists of five ecosystems (ocean, river, dunes, scrub zone, saltwater marsh). The principal system is vast sand dunes. To protect the sensitive sand dunes from foot traffic, two miles of elevated walkways, picnic areas, pavilions and an observation tower were built, allowing visitors to travel through the park in a natural environment.

Smyrna Dunes Park is one of a few county parks where man’s best friend may enjoy the amenities. However, pets must be leashed at all times.

    Park features
    • Dune walkover (1.5 miles long)
    • Educational programs (call park manager for more information)
    • Fishing
    • Nature trails
    • Observation tower
    • Parking
    • Pavilions
    • Picnic tables
    • Restrooms
    • Swimming
    Fishing
Fishing is allowed throughout the park. Please remember bathers have the right of way. All saltwater fishing regulations apply.

    Swimming
Never swim alone. No lifeguards are on duty. Swim at your own risk.

    Directions
    Map

I shot all pics with a new camera
all pics were shot in both RAW and JPEG.
these were the JPEG pics, I am working on the Raw pics before I upload them.

I was around 30 foot - 200 foot away from all the Gopher Tortoises, used a 55-250mm lens for the closeup shots.

now back to editing all the Raw pics (will post when done)

OK Had a chance to edit to enhance the colors and convert all my RAW pics to JPEG. They were taken with a Canon T7i with three different lens, 10-18mm STM Wide Angle Len, 18-55mm STM and a 55-250mm STM lens. they were shot at full HD 1080i and converted to fit on the forum at 800 x 600

First time using the Camera and lenses, still in the learning curve process. few beginner mistakes, corrected some in processing. next time around I now know what to do in bright sunlight and will bring my tripod/mono pod for long range shots..

What a cool idea - to have this facility and actively encourage fishos to get out on the pier & fish!! Sadly, in Sydney, NSW, the authorities are actively closing the various public jetties/piers to the fishos! :(

What fish would you expect to catch there?

    cheersRP
