Has some rain that day, wind calmed down in the evening. So decided to head out fishing after putting the kids to bed. Set up in the inlet by 10Pm, low tide at midnight. Saw a few shrimp but really small size. Brought in the lights after an hour. Fishing the inlet for a bout an hour - caught two small snook and 8 lady fish. Fish were very active. Heard of a lot of over slot snook. Also, the inlet was packed with boats snook fishing and FWC was on the water and checking boats at the ramp!...
There were a few boats there but for the most part it was empty and I know why. No shrimp. Wind was west/nw light. Not a ton of water moving either. We got about 10 shrimp total.
Good size. Definitely more productive nearing the end of outgoing tide. Lots of bull reds coming into the lights, Very cool. Headed back to the ramp on the South side of the inlet and ran my gigging lights. Saw 10 small flounder. Nothing to gig. Overall, a fun night. Lots of snakes/eels going out in the tide. I caught one - it looks more like an eel and has a snout like an eel. Anybody ever heard of the Asian swamp ell/rice eel? I think this is what these things are. They are invasive and I read some reports that they can be eaten if big enough. Anybody every try one or seen them while shrimping?
